Dayton-area children in need of books, bikes and toys this Christmas
The Healthy Communities Coalition is collecting new toys and used or new books for teens and children in our area for those who may otherwise go without gifts at Christmas.
New unwrapped gifts and gently used books can be dropped off at the Dayton Community Center at 170 Pike Street, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
Many Children Have Asked For Books for Christmas
Many kids have asked for books. If your child has outgrown some of their gently used books, they can also be brought to the Community Center. Of course NEW books are also welcome.
Many dream of having a bicycle
Many children have asked for bicycles. Used bikes and trikes are needed. If you know anyone who is buying a new bike/trike for their children and wonder what to do with the gently used but outgrown one, PLEASE bring it by the Community Center. There is also a great need for people willing to repair bikes.
Opportunities to "Adopt" Entire Families
There are whole families who have a need to be adopted. Healthy Communities Coalition is acting as a clearing house for such applications.
Their referrals have come from the schools. Perhaps you have a church group or service organization or even a group of neighbors who can "adopt" and entire family this winter. Please contact the toy drive task coordinator at Healthy Communities Coalition, Wendy Madson, at (775) 246-7550 or (775) 250-7884.
