Nevada State Parks meetings to discuss money for trail systems available through grant

The Washoe County coroner on Monday released the names of two California men found dead in the crash of a motorized glider that started a wildfire at Slide Mountain on Sept. 2.

A Carson City fire crew returned safely Monday afternoon from fighting the North Fire, which began burning one week ago on Sept. 3 in the Tahoe National Forest.

The theme of the 30th anniversary year of Dayton Valley Days this Saturday and Sunday is “Community,” celebrating both the 100th year anniversary of the Dayton High School building which has since become a community center, and the community of Dayton Valley as a whole.

Gusty winds and low humidity will arrive in the Carson City and Sierra region Tuesday along with a cooling weather pattern, which has prompted the National Service to issue a fire weather watches and warnings.

Two hikers reported missing were found, one Saturday and the other early Sunday morning in the Lake Tahoe area by search and rescue teams from Douglas County and outside agencies.

UPDATE: 8AM: The fire at the Carson City landfill in East Carson City is out but is still smoldering and putting up some residual smoke, according to fire officials. Those passing by may see some smoke. Firefighters are continuing to mop up the fire and are monitoring it as of Sunday morning. No homes or structures were threatened. The cause remains under investigation.

UPDATE: 10:30PM: Water tinders remained on scene of the Dump Fire Saturday night, dousing the flaming trash with water. Other resources with the Carson City Fire Department remained staged in the area. Cause of the fire is under investigation.

A fire has been reported at the Carson City Landfill and emergency crews are on scene, where flames are reported visible inside the landfill, an area of about 200 feet by 200 feet in size.

UPDATE SUNDAY 9:40AM: The Arc Fire south of the Truckee River between the Patrick and USA Parkway exits has stopped growing and is 40 percent contained, Storey County Emergency Management Director Joe Curtis said Sunday morning.

Regional fire crews are on scene of a wild fire burning in Northwestern Lyon County near Patrick Saturday afternoon.

Cars and burgers were the draw Saturday at the Max Casino parking lot in Carson City, where law enforcement officers with the Nevada Department of Corrections fed hungry car enthusiasts at the second annual Cops and Burgers fundraiser for Special Olympics Nevada.
