Pirates invade Bob McFadden Plaza Saturday in downtown Carson City
Commodore Kraken and his scruvy crew of pirates arrived from Reno Saturday morning, coming ashore on Bob McFadden Plaza in downtown Carson City for "Pirates on the Plaza," a fun-filled fundraising event to help the area's homeless.
The light-hearted event, sponsored by Scoup’s Ice Cream and Soup Bar, featured black powder demonstration at the top of each hour, costume contest for all ages, a stockade, pirate ship, mermaid and, of course, plenty of buccaneers
Laura Main of Storytime Photography and Rhonda Abend of the Carson City Classic Cinema Club worked in collaboration with Scoup's to bring the infamous Pirates of Reno, a non-profit group of theatrical reenactors, to the Nevada state capital.
The Pirates gifted their show, for which they have become renowned in the region, for pairs of socks or monetary donations to help provide for the area's homeless population.
Carson City Classic Cinema Club is showing Walt Disney’s classic "Treasure Island" (1950) on the plaza Saturday evening around 8 p.m. VIP seating on the patio at Bella Fiore Wines is available for $5, and includes free popcorn and table service for the showing.
