California men identified in Slide Mountain motorized glider crash that sparked wildfire
The Washoe County coroner on Monday released the names of two California men found dead in the crash of a motorized glider that started a wildfire at Slide Mountain on Sept. 2.
The Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed Sergio Colacevich, 80, of Carmichael and James Alton, 60, of San Ramon, died at the scene of the crash. They were identified using dental records.
The 64-acre Slide Fire started from the crashed Schempp-Flugzeugbau GMBH, Duo Discus motor-glider. The crash happened under unknown circumstances.
On Sept. 4, Truckee-Tahoe Airport officials posted the following on its Facebook page:
"Condolences go out to two local pilots and their families. Truckee Tahoe Airport District (KTRK) regrets to report that a motorized glider called a SCHEMPP-HIRTH - DUO DISCUS T crashed below Slide Mountain on the eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada this past Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018. The two pilots departed Truckee Tahoe Soaring Association facilities at KTRK at 12:58pm for a cross country flight."
