Robin Stark's 'Ceramic Reflections' featured at Nevada Arts Council’s OXS Gallery
Henderson artist Robin Stark’s ceramics are featured in the Nevada Arts Council’s OXS Gallery in Carson City from Dec. 9 through Jan. 31.
The work featured in Robin Stark: Ceramic Reflections represents a recent trend in which the artist’s ceramic forms become entirely sculptural. From the time spent in her first ceramic class in college, the material continues to engage Stark with its versatile and aesthetic qualities.
“The work fluctuates, presenting the viewer different considerations of what can be made in clay,” Stark said.
A recipient of a 2014 Nevada Arts Council Artist Fellowship, Stark also has received an Artist Fellowship Honorable Mention grant in 2006 and two Jackpot grants. Stark currently teaches ceramic arts at the College of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas.
She received a Master of Fine Arts from Pennsylvania State University, State College and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Davis. Upon graduation, Stark established the Studio of Dreams, and for eight years designed and produced a line of brightly glazed terra-cotta vases, bowls, platters and candleholders. Most of this production work was marketed through large wholesale trade shows on the East Coast.
Her work has been featured in 15 solo exhibits and several national invitational exhibits. Her collaborative community projects include the Whitney Ranch Tile Together Project, awarded Project of the Year by the city of Henderson, and the Cambridge Recreation Center Mural Project in Las Vegas. Ceramics Monthly has featured two of Stark’s articles and her work has been recognized by Las Vegas City Scenes and Las Vegas Weekly.
The OXS-Office eXhibition Series is managed by the Artist Services Program of the Nevada Arts Council. The OXS Gallery features artists who have been recognized through the Artist Fellowship Program and exhibits from the NTI-Traveling Exhibition Program. The Arts Council is funded by the Nevada State Legislature and the National Endowment of the Arts. For more information, contact Fran Morrow at (775) 687-7106.
