Hundreds attend Carson City candlelight gathering for teens injured in Kings Canyon crash
Hundreds of high school students and family members met Sunday night at McFadden Plaza in Carson City for a candlelight gathering to show support for seven teenagers who were injured in a single vehicle rollover accident Thursday night on Kings Canyon Road.
The event, organized by Carson High School teacher Angila Golik, was intended for the community to gather and pray for those students injured in the accident.
Safety personnel from the Carson City Fire Department and the Carson City Sheriff’s Office who responded to Thursday’s accident attended Sunday's event to show their support for the families, friends and community, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. He noted Sunday's gathering brought anywhere from 300 to 500 people.
A GoFundMe page has been established for the seven teens. The page creator is listed as Jasmyn Riediger, a Carson High School student and friend of the victims. As of Sunday night at 9:35 p.m. $37,395 of the $50k goal has been pledged. See the GoFundMe page here.
Meanwhile, several Carson City area business have pledged their support by offering local deals and discounts with a percentage of sales going directly to the victims and their families. Go here for the story.
The single vehicle SUV accident happened just before 11 p.m. Thursday on Kings Canyon Road. Seven were in the vehicle sustained injuries ranging from moderate to critical. The accident is being investigated by the Nevada Highway Patrol.
