NHP identifies elderly man in fatal Storey County crash involving vehicle going wrong way
An 82-year-old California man has been identified in a fatal crash that happened Oct. 14 on State Route 439, USA Parkway in Storey County.
Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Division identified the victim of the crash as Jimmy Rumelhart from Antioch, Calif. On Oct. 14, 2024, at approximately 6:37 p.m., the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Division responded to a crash at the location of SR439 and Storey County mile marker 3 in Storey County, Nev.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a black 2000 Toyota Tundra was traveling the wrong way, northbound in the southbound of SR439, in the number one southbound travel lane.
A gray 2023 Toyota 4Runner was traveling southbound on SR439 in the number one travel lane. The Tundra struck the front of the 4Runner. Both drivers were transported to Renown Medical Center with moderate to serious injuries, according to Nevada State Police Highway Patrol.
The driver of the 2000 Toyota Tundra, Rumelhart, died of injuries from the crash at the hospital. Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Northern Command West Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating this crash.
Nevada Highway Patrol Northern Command West has investigated 25 fatal crashes resulting in 28 fatalities thus far in 2024. The 2024 fatalities data is preliminary and may change/be updated based on final investigation and coroner reports, according to NHP.
