Big changes coming to Carson Now
In the next few days, Carson Now will launch a new and improved website.
The biggest change is the website is designed to display better on mobile devices. When the current website was built, most of our readers were reading it via desktop and laptop computers. But now, a majority of our readers are using their smartphones to read the news, so we needed to adapt to fit the news into that space.
We also updated the software and server to make the site more robust and able to withstand the kinds of traffic we get during breaking news events.
There are a few other updates as well, such as improved display of PDF documents, video and social media posts. Some of these additions will be rolling out in the next few weeks.
Someone once said that redesigning a news website is like working on a car while it's moving. There are a lot of moving parts as we move from one system to another. I'm sure there will be a few hiccups along the way that we will have to fix as they come up. This is a work in progress. If you see any problems, send them to me at: kc@carsonnow.org
I have been through enough redesigns of newspapers and websites to know that no matter what, some people are not going to like the changes. We try to take these complaints into account, but in the end, we continue to move forward so we can give you the local news you love.
Despite the changes, Carson Now will continue to give you local news free of charge, thanks to our sponsors. If you like our news, then give some love to our advertisers.
Thanks for reading Carson Now.
