Carson City weekend arrests include bookings for DUI, drugs and domestic battery

A 65-year-old man was arrested Thursday for suspicion of felony third DUI, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Jeffrey Alan Seipel was taken into custody in the area North Stewart and East John Street at 6:37 p.m. following an investigation. According to the booking report, a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy conducted a traffic stop on a wrong way driver at the intersection of East John and North Stewart.

A second deputy arrived to assist with the investigation of a possible intoxicated driver. The officer spoke with Seipel and observed signs of alcohol intoxication, including slurred speech, red watery eyes and the odor of an alcoholic beverage. While speaking, the man advised he had two drinks since approximately 2 p.m., the report states.

The man had an array of medical conditions. Based upon his medical conditions, the only field sobriety test conducted was the horizontal gaze nystagmus test. A preliminary breath test was done, in which the man blew a .210, the arrest report states. He was arrested for suspicion of third DUI. Bail: $20,000.

In other arrests:
— A 31-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI second offense and failure to obey a traffic control device.

According to the booking report, at around 2:44 a.m. a deputy was on routine patrol and observed a truck driving at a high rate of speed south on Airport Road. The officer drove behind the truck and watched it as it did not come to a complete stop while turning east on Gordonia from Airport Road.

The deputy initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, which continued east on Gordonia and then turning south on Siskiyou, coming to stop in a driveway in the 1100 block of Siskiyou Drive, the report states.

The deputy made contact with the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle who was trying to exit the truck. When the driver spoke, the deputy could smell an odor of alcohol, the report states. The man had red, watery eyes and had slightly slurred speech. The deputy asked the man why he took so long to stop. The man was unable to answer the question. The officer asked if he saw the lights flashing behind him. The man stated he was trying to get home, according to the report.

The officer asked the man to step out of his vehicle. The officer could still smell an odor of alcohol. The deputy explained that they were concerned he was too impaired to be driving and asked the man if he would submit to standardized field sobriety tests.

The man agreed and showed signs of impairment. He was asked if he would submit to preliminary breath tests. The man declined. Based on the man's driving pattern observed and his performance on the standardized field sobriety tests, he was arrested for suspicion of DUI. At jail he provided evidentiary breath tests with results of .157 and .152. Bail: $2,500.

— A 59-year-old man was arrested Sunday for suspicion of felony domestic battery with strangulation, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Antonio Leon was taken into custody at 5:28 p.m. According to the report, Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatch to a Columbia Way address after dispatch advised a woman was running outside yelling that someone was abusing her.

A deputy located the woman and observed obvious injuries to her arms, lips and mouth and face. The woman initially did not talk about the events that caused injury and stated she fell, the report states. The deputy was able to get her to explain her injuries, and learned from her statements that she and the man and got into a fight and said that he punched her in the mouth and side of the face. She also advised the man put both of his ams around her neck and pulled on her, the report states. She said she was able to run away to her car after that.

The woman was taken to the hospital by Carson City Fire Department. Meanwhile, deputies located the man, Antonio Leon, who had scratches and blood on the top of his head. The deputy asked the man how he got the injuries. He stated the woman scratched him. The deputy asked the man to explain what happened. The man was unable to give the officer a story, the report states. He continued to say nothing had happened. The deputy asked him about the woman's injuries. He stated she left the house with no injuries. He was arrested for suspicion felony domestic battery by strangulation. Bail: $10,000.

— A 38-year-old man was arrested early Monday morning for a misdemeanor warrant alleging domestic battery. He was also booked for a speeding offense. Bail: $3,000 cash.

— A 41-year-old Sun Valley man, Lester Reynolds, was arrested early Monday for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $2,500.

— A 44-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of DUI. During the investigation, the officer spoke with the driver who stated he was on his way home from a casino. He was asked if he had consumed alcoholic beverages. The man said yes and stated he had two beers.

The man spoke and the deputy observed his speech was slow and thick and his eyes were red and watery. The deputy, who asked the man to sit on the curb earlier, observed the man off balance as he attempted to stand up. During standardized field sobriety tests he showed signs of impairment. He provided a preliminary breath test with a result of .262 and was arrested. Bail: $1,137.

— A 41-year-old woman, Katy Janell Ross, was arrested Saturday, 1:49 a.m. in the area of North Carson and Adaline for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and a parole and probation violation. Bail: $2,500.

— A 52-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 11:05 p.m. for a misdemeanor outside agency warrant out of East Fork Justice Court, driving on a suspended driver's license and suspended registration. Bail: $1,818 cash.

— A 35-year-old Fernley man was arrested Saturday, 3:49 p.m. for a misdemeanor outside agency warrant issued out of Sparks Municipal Court. Bail: $775.

— A 69-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 10:30 a.m. for a misdemeanor violation of suspended sentence warrant. Bail: $1,000 cash.

— A 31-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 12:52 a.m. in the 3900 block of Highway 50 East for suspicion of misdemeanor fictitious registration, driving on a suspended driver's license and violation of bail conditions. Bail: $3,000.

Balloons

The Nevada Day Parade in downtown Carson City on Saturday was filled with celebration, culture and camaraderie. Marching bands and local musicians brought rhythm to the streets and filled the air with music and dancing.

UPDATE 11:30AM: Eastern Sierra Fire and Ice, which monitors fires in the region, reports forward fire progress has been stopped per incident command. The fire is estimated at around 3 acres. It is unknown at this time if any structures were damaged.

UPDATE 11:28AM: Evacuation orders have been issued for the vicinity of the fire in the Jacks Valley area of Alpine View Court and Bavarian Drive; Parameters may be viewed on the Perimeter Map here. East Fork Fire and Carson City Fire Department responded Sunday morning to a brush fire in the area of Alpine View Court in the Jacks Valley area of Douglas County.

An early-season storm will bring widespread gusty winds, valley rain around Carson City and surrounding counties and Sierra snow showers Sunday through Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

As the 2024 Nevada Day Parade ended, the fun continued with the annual Nevada Day beard competition. Bob McFadden Plaza in downtown Carson City buzzed with nearly two hours of excitement as the bearded showed off their best.

Central Lyon Fire Protection District will begin open burning on Nov. 1, 2024, pending weather conditions. This decision aligns with fire safety protocols and mirrors burn permit restrictions in place by surrounding agencies, including the Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF), Fernley, Carson City and Storey County.

It was a perfect day in Carson City for the hot air balloons to celebrate Nevada Day 2024. The air was crisp with a light breeze from the south. The balloons went off right on schedule and headed north, across the city. A couple were seen landing on, or near, Silver Oak Golf Course.
