Seats going fast for Celebrity Chef, Harvest Dinner to benefit Carson City Greenhouse Project

Just seven tickets remain for the 11th annual Celebrity Chef & Harvest Dinner, to benefit The Greenhouse Project takes place Monday, Nov. 11 at the Governor’s Mansion, Nevada Room in Carson City. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
Tickets cost $200 and must be purchased in advance; none will be sold at the door.

“For those wanting to attend, purchase must be made no later than close of business, Wednesday Nov. 6, in order to deliver tickets prior to the event,” said TGP President Karen Abowd. Tickets can be purchased by calling Abowd at 775-232-8626.

Greenhouse Central is a state-of-the-art agricultural education facility located on Carson High School’s campus. Produce grown there as well as at The Foothill Garden, a collaborative endeavor with Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center, supports the community’s food insecure and Meals on Wheels.

The multi-course wine or beer-paired dinner features locally-sourced products, meeting the ongoing commitment of this year’s hosting chefs, Charlie Abowd dinner founder and of Café at Adele’s and Collin Smith and Chris Nealon of Roundabout Catering, who are also event sponsors, of providing farm-to-table-goodness. A special Harvest Dinner beer has also been brewed by Nealon.

This year’s menu has been carefully crafted.

“We are excited to be working together to present diverse cuisine, influenced I would say, by each of our unique backgrounds,” Charlie said. “Besides being a wonderful fund-raising event for TGP, it is also a fabulous opportunity to introduce our supporters to new and exciting flavors, beautifully presented.

“Plus, it’s always a joy to work with others that have a shared passion.”

The menu includes:
Tray Passed Appetizers include Ricotta Toast with Minted Peas and Pea Shoots; Beet Spoons with Goat Cheese and Pickled Carrots; Sea Salt Cracker-Pierre Robert, with Apple, Local Honey and Almonds; Pizza of Fall Tomatoes, Fresh Basil and Halloumi.

First Course features Ahi Carpaccio topped with Micro Arugula, Pine Nut Bubbles, Pickled Shallot and Pecorino Romano.

Second Course: Sunchoke Bisque with Truffle Roast Cauliflower, Chives and Curried Wild Rice.

Third Course features a delightful combination of Kale, Faro, Grilled Lemons, Egg, Tomatoes, Manchego, Grilled Artichoke Hearts, Garlic Crostini glazed with Olive Oil.

Fourth Course features Entrecote of Beef, Potato Leek Puree, White Miso and Wild Mushrooms Saute.

Dessert features Pumpkin Pot du Cream with Cinnamon Caramel Sauce and Chantilly Crème.

TGP is a growing facility on Carson High school’s campus, that provides ag education and food for the community's food insecure. The multi-course dinner is wine or beer-paired, the choice of ticket holders.

“We are going to try to match and exceed the generous Angel Donor donation during the event,” Karen said.
Auction items this year include the Burner Mobile Progressive Dinner, art from Jeffrey Pace, owner of Artsy Fartsy Gallery’s personal collection and a Paella Dinner for 10.

Photographer Tanja Musselman is providing beautiful wild horse photos and Hometown Health has donated a DNA testing kit with a basket of local goods as this year’s raffle items.

A man was arrested Thursday night at an east Carson City grocery store parking lot for felony suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and 7 misdemeanors, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
