Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Sat, 10/14/2023 - 11:17amThis morning there was an annular solar eclipse. The clips started about 8:05 a.m. and lasted for a couple of hours. The pictures are part of a series and were taken at 10 minute intervals. The GIF file is a combination of the series. Although the start was shrouded in cloud cover, the majority of the eclipse was pretty clear.

Last night Mars was in opposition and earlier in the evening the moon eclipsed Mars for a period of time. The photos of the moon and Mars were taken after it reappeared in the sky.
Spying the full Moon and Jupiter

Today is the full moon for October and the next one will be Nov. 9. As I spied the moon I saw that Jupiter was just above and to the right and was also very clear. Several of Jupiter's moons were also visible.

Photos were taken off of Pine Lane in north Carson City with a Nikon Coolpix P-1000, which has a substantial zoom. As an added bonus I just had to zoom into the moon and capture it as well.

Huck is a Steller's jay, his species is named for an 18th century German naturalist, but his name comes from a boy who had some adventures out on the Mississippi River in the 19th century, as immortalized by Mark Twain.

Fishing Report: Great fishing conditions across the board, more sites opening soon

The trip started out a little precarious. We arrived on Saturday afternoon to a steady 25 to 50 mph wind. Which kept us off the lake until Sunday.

The moon, cast with an orange and pink hue, was full last night, and will appear mostly full again Wednesday night and partially full Thursday evening.
