Grand opening celebration for Carson City Art Gallery and Pottery Studio
Rich and Robin McGregor were all smiles Saturday afternoon as they opened the doors to the new Carson City Art Gallery and Pottery Studio inside the historic stage depot building located at 110 S. Curry Street in downtown Carson City.
"This is everything I dreamed it would be," Rich McGregor said, standing in the gravel parking lot of the property and overlooking the historic 1,100 square-foot structure that dates back to the 1860s when it served as a livery and later freight depot.
From the moment the couple entered the building for the first time, Robin McGregor said, they had the vision of an art gallery in mind.
"When we saw the building, it begged to be a gallery," she said.
Very little had to be done to make the space move-in ready. With the exception of some plumbing on the studio side of the building, the space was otherwise turn-key when the McGregors signed the lease.
Saturday's grand opening of the combination art gallery and studio, located at the corner of Second and Curry streets, is no longer a dream for the McGregors, who have wanted all along to combine the two into one.
For Robin McGregor, the feeling was still surreal Saturday afternoon during the Downtown Business Association (DBA) Wine Walk event.
"I feel like I need to pinch myself," she said. "The universe has opened up."
Vino was served on the property for Wine Walk guests, but the gallery and studio were open to all.
The McGregors just completed the move from their Winnie Lane location, where the business was formerly known as Carson City Pottery.
"I'm just so happy and excited," Robin McGregor said about Saturday's grand opening celebration. "The reception we are receiving from the public is fabulous."
Besides the functional pottery art that Robin specializes in, and the recycled clay sculptures that Rich creates, Carson City Art Gallery and Pottery Studio features artwork across a diversity of mediums.
From photography to painting on canvas, glass, metal and wood art, basketry and hand-made jewelry, there is something for any and every taste at the McGregors' new location.
Robin McGregor said all of the dozen or so featured artists in the gallery are local to the region, and all but four of them the McGregors already knew from the local arts community.
Having the space for a gallery that highlights the diversity of artistic talent in Carson City has been a driving force behind the McGregors' vision and their move to downtown.
"It's very important to us," Robin McGregor said.
