Man arrested for involuntary manslaughter in Brunswick Canyon shooting
One man was arrested today in the shooting death of his friend in Brunswick Canyon.
Here is the press release from the Carson City Sheriff's Office:
At approximately 8:40 a.m. this morning, August 20th, the Carson City Sheriff's Office was notified by Kennith Johnson that his friend was fatally shot in Brunswick Canyon, approximately 8 miles east of town. Johnson informed officers that another friend, Anthony Kelich, had remained in the canyon. The victim was identified by Johnson as Michael Scott, a 46 year old roommate and Carson City resident.
Sheriff's Deputies responded to the rural area of the county and quickly located Anthony Kelich. Kelich led officers to a location where Scott's body was found after about a two hour search. Scott had suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Both Kennith Johnson and Anthony Kelich worked with investigators from the Carson City Sheriff's Office and the Washoe County Sheriff's Office Crime Lab throughout the day. Detectives have learned that the three men left Carson City late Friday afternoon to go shooting. No one had any contact with them again until Saturday morning when Johnson arrived at the Sheriff's Office to summon assistance. The wife of Michael Scott was informed of this death when she arrived at the Sheriff's Office in mid afternoon to report her husband and friends missing.
While the matter remains under investigation, late today, Anthony Kelich was booked into the Carson City Jail and charged with Involuntary Manslaughter, Ex-felon in possession of a firearm, and Possession of a Firearm While Intoxicated. Bail has been set at $10,000.
