With December arriving we are counting the days until Christmas. So deck the halls, get some jingle bells and wassail away this holiday season. Here's what's happening now through Christmas around Carson City, Carson Valley, Dayton and Virginia City areas.

Almost everyone reading these words grew up safe and secure within the comfortable care of at least one dependable parent. We have leaves, lots of leaves. I used to pile all the leaves on my shrub and flower beds. The Northern Nevada Honor Guard's shuttle bus requires essential repairs and we are seeking the public's help. The members of this unit are all veterans and part of the American Legion High Desert Post 56, Carson City. The unit provides, on average, 50-plus funerals and memorial services each year, is non-profit and all services are provided at no cost.

CARSON CITY — Next week is National Computer Science week, and all schools in the nation are being urged to do an "Hour of Code." To help with the effort, State Superintendent Dr. Steve Canavero, Nevada Department of Education, joined students in Ms. Sherri Kelley's AP Computer Science class at Carson High School on Friday morning, Dec. 1.

Hello fellow anglers, it is hard to believe December is here and soon will come ice fishing and the opener of the Topaz Lake 2018 fishing season. The ice fishing may have to wait a little longer.

Christmas tree permits in the Lake Tahoe Basin are sold out as of Nov. 24, 2017. On Nov. 13, 2,250 permits were issued on a first-come, first-served basis. No additional permits will be authorized at Tahoe this season, however permits are available in the Carson Ranger District.
