Weather, ground saturated at Mills Park forces Carson City to cancel National Night Out
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office regrets to inform everyone that the 12th Annual National Night Out in Mills Park, set for Tuesday, August 5 at 5 p.m. has been canceled.
It has been determined that with the park's current ground saturation from the rain, the quantity of “heavy” public safety vehicles, aircraft and equipment that was scheduled to be on the grassy area of the park would cause irreparable damage. Further, at this late hour, there is insufficient time to orchestrate a reasonable relocation of the event location, according to a news release which continues below.
"The Carson City community is fortunate to have such a fantastic, centrally located, family recreational area that is enjoyed year round by everyone for picnics and sporting events alike. To damage the park whatsoever is just not an option," the news release states.
"Sheriff Ken Furlong, on behalf of all of our Public Safety entities, apologizes for any inconvenience.
"Each year for the last 11 years, thousands have filled Mills Park on this single night to send out a community wide message of “giving crime the boot.”
"We appreciate all of the support that was committed by our local businesses, service organizations, non-profits, and government organizations and hope to see you again in August of 2015.
"Please keep up the Crime Stopping efforts."
