Tamarack Fire jumps US 395, swells in size; evacuations continue

UPDATE 3:30PM: Governor Sisolak declares a state of emergency in Douglas County in response to the ongoing fire. Go here for the declaration of emergency.

UPDATE 3:14PM: Alpine County has finalized the structure damage report and interactive map for Alpine residents to check the status of their structures from the fire. The map can be found here https://www.alpinecountyca.gov/593/Maps. According to Tamarack Fire Information, the map will be updated every 24 hours.

UPDATE 9:27AM: The U.S. Forest Service reports the Tamarack fire has now grown to 58,417 acres and that estimated containment of the fire is August 31. The fire remains 4 percent contained as of Friday morning.

The Tamarack Fire has crossed US 395 in Douglas County and has grown 2,500 acres. Additionally, power to the line that provides electricity to the Coleville and Walker area has been instructed to be turned off at the request of the Tamarack Fire Incident Command Center, according to Liberty Utilities Lake Tahoe.

There is no estimated time when power will be restored, KOLO-TV reported.

Late Thursday night brought advisories from Lyon County officials, calling Smith Valley residents to be prepared for evacuations as the Tamarack Fire moves east into Nevada. Go here for a list of streets recommended by officials to prepare for evaluations.

Lyon County asks residents to prepare to evacuate. Ensure that medications, pet food, and important documents are packed. The county will continue to post updates on its website and social media sites Facebook and Twitter.

The Tamarack Fire has stayed consistent at 50,129 acres burned and four percent containment, which was initially reported by the Tamarack Incident Management Team on Thursday morning. Personnel on site have upped to 1,353 active bodies as the fire rages across state lines into Nevada.

UPDATE 6:15 PM: Firefighters were unable to find the source of any fire and have begun to pull resources off of it, said Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon. Those who were evacuated from the building are now allowed to go back inside.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Tuesday evening to a structure fire reported at Carson High School.

CARSON CITY — In honor of Veterans Day, the Carson Nugget is offering two free tickets for its Al Stewart concert on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 9 p.m. to active duty service members and veterans. UPDATE 4:13PM: An accident involving a juvenile pedestrian this afternoon is causing widespread traffic problems along William Street, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office. Motorists are advised to stay clear of the area. The injured juvenile male has been flown to Renown Medical Center in Reno, said Carson City Fire Department Chief Sean Slamon.

Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties’ November breakfast meeting includes a discussion and request for input on the Coalition’s updated Comprehensive Community Prevention Plan, plus a free training on Naloxone and harm reduction. The public meeting is on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 9am at the Silver Springs Community Center, 2945 Fort Churchill Street.
