Carson City arrests: Man jailed for attempted burglary, battery on officers
A 28-year-old man was arrested Sunday for attempted burglary, two counts battery on a peace officer and obstructing, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Bryce Weiss Stempeek was taken into custody at 9:21 p.m. in the 900 block of Roop Street. According to the arrest report, deputies were called to a nearby grocery store for a report of attempted burglary in which the suspect was trying to break into cars parked in the parking lot. He was also reportedly yelling at Smith’s staff and had charged at the reporting party who called dispatch.
As the officer arrived a citizen pointed to the suspect and the parking lot at 777 East William Street. The deputy arrived, observed the man, who then charged at the deputy. The suspect was ordered to stop but continued toward the deputy waving both fists in his direction in an aggressive manner, then telling the deputy he had “better back the f*** up before you get chopped up,” the arrest report states.
The officer attempted to place the man into custody. The man swung at the deputy with his right hand. The deputy was able to go under the punch, however the man’s arm did make contact with the officer’s head. A sergeant arrived on scene and tackled the suspect, with all three on the ground. During the scuffle, the deputy was injured after his head hit the asphalt causing a hematoma over his right left temple.
The man continued to fight and was tasered by a third officer who arrived on scene. Through interviews with witnesses officers learned the man made threatening statements to staff and customers at the grocery store and attempted to break into a Smith’s employee car. Bail: $22,686.
