NHP: 10-year-old boy dies in SUV rollover
A 10-year-old boy died from injuries sustained in a single vehicle rollover accident on Thursday eight miles south of Carson CIty in Douglas County, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports. The boy and the driver of the SUV were taken by Care Flight where the child later died of his injuries at a Reno hospital.
The boy, Felix Vargas, was in the SUV with seven others when it rolled over, with the boy being thrown from the vehicle, said NHP Trooper Dan Lopez.
The SUV, driven by Maria Santos Vargas, was traveling in the southbound lane on Highway 395 just north of Airport Road, according to a preliminary investigation. Maria Santos Vargas was taken to Renown Medical Center in Reno with non life-threatening injuries, Lopez said.
Felix Vargas was also flown to Renown Regional Medical Center by Care Flight and later died from his injuries. Two others that were in the SUV were transported to the Carson Tahoe Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Everyone else in the SUV was treated at the accident scene.
