Carson City investigators say arson the cause of vehicle fires at apartment complex
An early Wednesday morning fire at a Brown Street apartment complex that destroyed four vehicles has been determined to be arson, said Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon.
Multiple calls came into 911 dispatch at around 3:55 a.m. regarding a vehicle on fire in the 1700 block of Brown Street, said Carson City Ken Sheriff Furlong. By the time firefighters and sheriff's deputies arrived on scene there were multiple cars burning.
Fire investigators determined Wednesday afternoon that it was suspicious in nature and caused by arson where it is believed accelerants were used, said Slamon. There are no suspects at this time. Go here to watch the video of a press conference held Wednesday evening.
Damage assessment immediately following the fire was four vehicles. The estimated cost damage amount is between $50,000 to $70,000, said Slamon. No injuries were reported.
Initial reports are there was an explosion. That was determined not to be the case and there was no indication of an explosive device, said Slamon. What people likely heard was tires from the vehicles exploding from the heat and flames, he added.

Meanwhile, the investigation continues into the June 23 fire at a vacant townhouse that was under construction at the Arbor Village development off of Little and Centerville lanes near south Roop Street. The fire was suspicious in nature and is believed to be caused by arson.
Carson City firefighter crews were dispatched at 11:20 p.m. June 23 to the structure fire. Upon arrival, firefighters observed one unit of the complex fully engulfed in flames. Fire suppression efforts managed to limit the damage to two units, crews battling the blaze saved surrounding properties and damages are estimated at $225,000, according to the Carson City Fire Department.
There have been other fires, said Slamon including dumpster fires on July 4, July 5 and July 6, and a few small brush fires.
