Waste Management unveils new trash carts, pick-up dates for Carson City residents
Waste Management of Northern Nevada is delivering roughly 45,000 new trash carts to Carson City residents on July 1, 2019.
Three new trash carts labeled by green, blue and brown lids are now available to maximize operational efficiency as the Carson City community grows and expands. Each cart is measured as the standard 95 gallons, but customers can order smaller sizes from 65 or 35 gallons.
Green lids is for trash only. Specific trash items includes various snack and chip bags, food scraps, plastic wraps and bags, broken glass and dishes, diapers, pet waste, asbestos containers, hoses, cords, wire, polyester foam packaging and plastic utensils.
The blue lid indicates recyclable items. Items such as clean paper, magazines, cardboard, junk mail, cardboard egg cartons, metal and aerosol cans, aluminum, glass bottles and jars and empty plastic bottles are allowed.
Brown lids are used for yard waste. Grass, flowers, wood and sticks, wood chips and leaves are able to be placed inside the cart. Rocks, tree stumps, plastic bags and branches more than three feet in length and six inches in diameter are not allowed.
To reduce litter, waste and wildlife conflicts, all trash must fit inside the carts. Customers with overfilled carts will receive a warning and may be subject to additional charges. Excess trash will not be collected.
Trash is collected every week. Recyclables and yard waste will be collected every other week on alternating weeks. New pickup dates for trash, recyclables and yard waste have been sent to the mailing address to Carson City residents.
New Carts must be wheeled to the curb by 7 a.m. on the collection day. For hazardous waste, The Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Facility provides Carson City residents with free hazardous waste disposal services every Thursday afternoon between 1:30 and 4 p.m. by appointment.
