Blooming wildflower beauties
By the Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association
The Shasta Cascade region comes alive this time of year as vibrant blooming wildflowers show off their stunning colors. Thanks to Mother Nature it should be an excellent year for wildflower viewing due to all of the snow and rain fall the area has received. The best time for wildflower viewing is normally during the months of April through June in the lower elevations, and June through August in the higher elevations.
Each region is home to different species of native wildflowers that seem to paint the hillsides and landscapes with their unique colors.
Walk along one of the many trails found throughout the region, drive along a scenic byway, or observe the contrasting colors of wildflowers lining one of the many lakes, rivers, or streams.
View the unique Snow Plant found throughout Lassen Volcanic National Park, or enjoy other species such as the Crimson Columbine and the Shooting Star wildflower.
The Whiskeytown National Recreation Area is another great place to explore the various wildflowers such as the Indian Warrior wildflowers and Lupines. Shasta Lilies can be seen starting in June at Castle Crags State Park, where you can also view blooming Dogwoods, Scotch Broom, and a number of wild orchids. Wildflowers highlight the beauty of the Feather River Canyon with Monkey Flowers, Lupines, and the Redbud Shrub.
No matter where you’re journey takes you, you are sure to experience the beauty of some of the region’s most beautiful wildflowers along the way.
Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association is a non-profit organization seeking to promote economic development through recreation and tourism in Butte, Lassen, Plumas, Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama, Modoc, and Trinity Counties.
