Two-tiered offender arrested after failing to register with Carson City authorities
A 23-year-old transient was arrested Sunday after failing to register as a two-tiered sex offender.
Levi Whitehead, with no known fixed Carson City address given, is being held on $7,500 bail in Carson City Jail. According to the arrest report, the last known address for the man was in the 3800 block of Ponderosa Drive in Carson City. The man told authorities he has been sleeping on couches of friends between Reno and Carson City.
According to a Carson City Sheriff's Office arrest report, a deputy was on routine patrol in the area of William and Roop. The arresting deputy observed four subjects walking north in the southbound travel lane on Roop Street. All the subjects walked across William Street without using a crosswalk, according to the deputy.
The four subjects were stopped at the intersection and the deputy made contact with each, including Whitehead.
Additional deputies arrived and the arresting officer questioned Whitehead in private about his registration. Whitehead advised that he had arrived in Carson City at 11 a.m. on May 30 from Reno. He stated he was staying on a friend's couch in Carson City but did not know the address.
He told the deputy he had been living in Reno for a number of weeks but was not sure of the exact time, according to the arrest report. The man did confirm that he was living elsewhere and has not been living at the Ponderosa Drive address as listed on his registration, according to the arrest report.
The deputy asked Whitehead why he was not registered with current information and, according to the arrest report, he "would not answer my question."
The arresting deputy placed Whitehead into custody for failing to register.
