WNC Soccer Club Competes for National Title

Western Nevada College Soccer Club has qualified for the National Showcase Tournament on Saturday and Sunday in Temecula, Calif. The WNC women are among nine teams in the West Coast Soccer Association tournament at Patricia H. Birdsall Sports Park.

In group play on Saturday, WNC will play UC San Diego at 1 p.m., then oppose Washington State at 6 p.m.

Group winners advance to the national semifinals on Sunday. Stanford, CSU Northridge, CSU San Marcos, UC Davis, UCLA and San Diego State also are competing in the tournament.

WNC finished fourth in the WCSA NorCal Division. The Wildcats rallied from a two-goal deficit in the final 20 minutes to tie University of Nevada, Reno, 2-2, last Sunday.

In addition, WNC Soccer Club members Kiersten Briggs, Maribel Ledezma and Sarah Hernandez will participate in a National All-Star Game on Sunday in Temecula.

A number of Carson City residents became concerned after they received what some are calling rather confusing voting instructions in the mail.

The mailer states that individuals should update their signatures in their voter registration to assist in streamlining voting. However, there is no section on the mailer to provide a signature, or any information required to verify the signature is coming from the designated voter.
