Carson City arrests: Man jailed for felony eluding tells deputy he did it to avoid citation
An 18-year-old Carson City man arrested early Monday morning faces numerous charges including suspicion of felony eluding a police officer and misdemeanor reckless driving, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Brian Keith Aimon Jr. was arrested at 4:54 a.m. in the area of Molly Drive and Long Street following a brief pursuit. He also faces misdemeanor charges of failure to stop at a stop sign, speeding over 21 mph, driving without registration and open container.
According to the arrest report, a deputy observed a red Jeep without license plates going northbound on Saliman Road at Robinson. When the deputy attempted to pull behind the Jeep, the driver accelerated in an attempt to avoid law enforcement.
The vehicle was observed going approximately 60 mph from a distance of approximately 150 yards. The deputy activated his red and blue emergency light and siren. The vehicle continued to accelerate at a high rate of speed and went into oncoming traffic, avoiding a collision to get around a vehicle on Saliman Road.
The driver turned south onto Molly Drive and quickly pulled into a parking spot and turned off the vehicle lights. The driver was removed from the Jeep and placed into handcuffs.
He was read his Miranda warning. He stated he ran because he did not want another citation. He apologized for his disregard for safety and stated that he just didn’t want to lose his vehicle. Bail: $20,780.
