Carson City Sheriff's arrest log: Woman booked on attempted murder

A Carson City woman was arrested late Friday night at 10:26 p.m. in the 1200 block of Woodside Drive on multiple felony offenses, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy report said, including attempted murder.

Melissa Nunez, 24, was also booked into the Carson City Jail on felony arson, killing an animal, mayhem and battery with a deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm after Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a woman with a knife chasing a male subject.

Law enforcement was flagged down by multiple people in the area and directed to a residence that displayed multiple stab marks in the door. One resident next door exited and reported his brother had been hit, the arrest report said.

The victim also exited, exhibiting a stab wound to his left temple that was bleeding heavily. Paramedics arrived at the scene to treat the victim, who was subsequently transported by Care Flight to a Reno hospital due to the severity of his injuries, the report said. His condition at this time is unknown.

Before being Care Flighted, the victim spoke to deputies through a translator, reporting that Nunez attacked and chased him as he was walking home from work.

No person at the scene knew who Nunez was, the report said, or had any prior dealings with her.

A sedan parked at the scene was heavily damaged, its windshield and hood showing multiple stab marks, dents and scratches. Its owner had witnessed Nunez damaging the vehicle, the report said.

Deputies located Nunez with the help of witnesses at the scene who had observed her entering a nearby residence. Nunez had barricaded herself in the residence and was not responding to law enforcement.

She was observed to be starting a fire on the kitchen stove inside the residence, the report said. Deputies then made entry, secured Nunez, and extinguished the fire.

Blood was located in multiple locations of the residence, the report said, and Nunez exhibited no apparent injuries to account for the blood.

Spatterings and smears of blood on walls of the residence were consistent with that of an animal, the report said, and a dog bleeding heavily with multiple stab wounds was located inside the residence.

The dog was transported to an emergency veterinarian by animal control and later died of its injuries, the Sheriff's office confirmed. Witnesses reported the dog had come from Nunez's residence.

Another victim later contacted law enforcement from the residence early Saturday morning. Upon arrival, deputies found him with a laceration to his left arm, which he had covered. Paramedics arrived to treat the victim, whose wound was determined to be a two-inch laceration to his left shoulder.

The victim reported to law enforcement that Nunez had too much to drink, became very aggressive and attacked him with a knife. He said he disengaged from the fight and left the scene.

Multiple knives had been recovered in the area consistent with the damages and injuries found at scene. Bail: $75,000.
