Candidate forums for Carson City seats set for April 12 and April 15
Important decisions lie ahead with voters in the upcoming elections for several Carson City elected offices.
The Carson City Chamber of Commerce will hold two primary candidates forums April 12 and April 15, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Carson Nugget, 507 North Carson Street. The event is free and open to the public. WNC Professor Robert Morin will serve as moderator and ask each candidate a series of three questions. The audience will have the opportunity to weigh in.
The forums will allow Carson residents to gain insight into the candidates and their various platforms. Voters then will be able to make informed decisions as to whom to send to the general election on Tuesday, Nov. 2. The Chamber does not endorse or financially support candidates for office and provides this forum as a service to its members and the community .
The April 12 primary candidates forum will focus on the The Carson City Supervisors race. The April 15 event will focus on the races for sheriff, and Assembly districts 38 and 40. To read more about the candidates, go here: http://carsonnow.org/election-2010-list-candidates
There are several interesting races with multiple candidates that must be narrowed down to send the most qualified candidates to the general election unless one of the multiple candidates carries over 50 percent of the vote.
The primary election will be held on June 8 and voters will be asked to vote for two supervisors to replace the termed out seats of Robin Williamson, Ward 1 and Pete Livermore, Ward 3. There are six candidates for the Ward 1 seat and three for the Ward 3 seat. These seats are non-partisan and voters will be asked to vote for two in each district to advance to the general.
Voters also will be asked to make the important decision as to who our next sheriff will be. This, too, is a non-partisan race and the choice will be to advance two of the three candidates to the general.
The Assembly District 40 seat will be vacant, and three Republicans are vying for this partisan seat. One Republican must be chosen to run against the sole Democrat contender, Robin Williamson, in the general. District 38 has two Republicans vying for the seat to run against the Independent and the Democrat. Only the Republicans must enter the primary for the other party candidates are unopposed in the primary and get to sit this one ot.
Join the Chamber on Monday, April 12th to hear the candidates for the two soon-to-be-vacated city supervisor seats:
