Parks and pathways closed: Carson City sees nearly 2 inches of rain since Wednesday
Carson City Public Works, Parks and Recreation personnel and emergency managers have been working on flood prone areas throughout Thursday and will continue to do so until the storm is over, officials said this afternoon.

As for the rain amounts CarsonWeather.com reports 1.54 inches as of Thursday afternoon and .40 of an inch recorded Wednesday. A Flood Advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday for central Carson City, Douglas County and southern Washoe County.

The Sierra above Lake Tahoe is getting its precipitation via heavy wet snow, according to the National Weather Service. A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for the Sierra until 5 a.m. Friday morning.
Additional snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches is possible with local amounts up to 2 feet near the Sierra Crest, are expected above 7,000 feet. Up to 8 inches is expected between 6,500 and 7,000 feet, with a few slushy inches of snowfall down to lake level.
The Nevada Department of Transportation has closed State Route 431 Mount Rose Highway from Fairview to Sky Tavern due to heavy snow and unsafe conditions. An avalanche that happened earlier Thursday has been searched and cleared by the Mount Rose Ski Patrol to ensure that no other vehicles were involved.
Moderate to heavy precipitation will continue to move through the Sierra into early afternoon. Then it will become more showery with bands of moderate to heavy showers expected for the afternoon into early evening.
Snow levels will fluctuate based on precip intensity, but average 5,000-5,500 feet for NE California, 6500 feet for Tahoe and 7,000-7,500 feet in Mono County, Calif. These snow level could vary by 1,000 feet above (very light precip) to 5,000 feet below (heavy) with precipitation intensity.
Carson City, Carson Valley and Western Nevada isn't expected to receive much snow but a heavier band of precipitation could drop a couple inches of snow around Virginia City within an hour, according to the weather service. If you have travel plans, call 511 or log onto NVRoads.com.
