Carson City leaders aim to close $10M budget deficit on Thursday
Carson City Board of Supervisors have a heavy agenda this week as they try to close a $10 million budget deficit.
Supervisors will meet Thursday, 8:30 a.m., at the Community Center inside the Sierra Room at 851 East William Street in Carson City.
To balance the budget, city staff has proposed to use $2 million of the Landfill Post Closure Fund; reduce the General Fund ending balance to 5 percent and to cut expenses by $7.8 million.
Some of the budget measures were adopted by Supervisors as the 2011 Cutback Program Priority List but there may be opportunities to achieve the same dollar reduction without eliminating some positions, according to a city staff report.
The program for the two percent salary reduction is proposed to be pulled while other alternatives are considered, the report stated.
Proposed cuts are found here by clicking on the attached PDF or by going to the city's Web site and clicking the link 17A.
