Carson City sheriff’s weekend arrests: Man jailed for suspicion of third DUI

A 40-year-old man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of a third DUI following a traffic stop, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Albert Gomez Jr., of Reno was arrested at 11:05 p.m. in the area of Proctor and Fall streets after he was pulled over for going through a stop sign without stopping. He also faces misdemeanor charges of having no proof of insurance and failing to stop at a stop sign. His occupation was listed "federal correction I."

According to the arrest report the arresting deputy observed the man to have bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech and smelled of alcohol. The man admitted he had consumed an alcoholic beverage that night. He did not have valid proof of insurance in the vehicle.

The man consented to standardized field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. He blew a preliminary breath test of .187.

At jail he provided voluntary breath tests with .141 and .138. Criminal history records show two priors DUI conviction, Feb. 7, 2017 and April 15, 2013. Bail: $20,849.

In other arrests:
— A 29-year-old Carson City woman, Stephanie Lynn Van Buskirk, was arrested Saturday 7:15 p.m. for suspicion of embezzlement, a felony.
According to the arrest report, the woman is accused of embezzling money from a local business via the company’s PayPal account. Bail: $20,000.

— A 34-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Monday in the 1400 block of Siskiyou Drive for misdemeanor suspicion of domestic battery.

Deputies were called to the residence at 2:05 a.m. for a report of an unknown problem. A deputy arrived and observed the front door shattered and a man yelling incoherently.

The man, who was intoxicated, had to be asked multiple times to comply with demands. A subsequent investigation determined the man to be the primary aggressor in a domestic battery of a victim. Bail: $3,137.

— A 49-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday, 2:212 a.m. in the area of East William Street for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving on a suspended license.

According to the arrest report, the man was stopped for having a nonfunctioning passenger side headlamp. The man advised he did not have a driver’s license or vehicle insurance. He was asked if he had been drinking. The man replied he had not. He was asked if he had anything illegal in the vehicle. The man replied a “meth pipe.” He was detained.

He was read his Miranda warning in which he stated he understood and wished to speak with the officer. The deputy asked the man how much he had to drink and the man replied that he was “drunk” prior to falling asleep earlier in the day. The man agreed to submit to field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. He blew a preliminary breath test of .148. Bail: $2,911.

— A 34-year-old Carson City man, Chase Douglas Rowe, was arrested Sunday, 2:33 a.m. in the 3800 block of South Carson Street for a felony parole and probation hold. He’s being held without bail in lieu of a hearing.

— 20-year—old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 3:24 a.m. in the 3300 block of Woodside Drive for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to a single vehicle rollover accident. Deputies arrived and found the white Toyota pickup had rolled onto its side and was in the middle of the roadway.
Deputies met with the driver who said he was the sole occupant. He said he did not have ID on him. The deputy observed his speech was slurred and sluggish.

He told the officer he had not been drinking. He denied any injuries and refused medical treatment. The man submitted a preliminary breath test with a result of .167. He was arrested and taken to Carson Tahoe Hospital for evaluation. Two blood samples were taken at the hospital before he was transported to jail. Bail: $1,137.

A 30-year-old Marysville, Calif., man was arrested Sunday, 12:38 a.m. in the 300 block of North Carson Street for misdemeanor suspicion of domestic battery. The man allegedly attempted to grab keys from his girlfriend who took them away from him so he wouldn’t drive because he was drunk. The woman sustained a 3-inch laceration to her finger after the man attempted to take the keys away. A witness also reported the man pushed the woman. He was arrested for suspicion of domestic battery. Bail: $3,137.

— A 50-year-old Dayton man was arrested Saturday, 11:51 p.m. in the 2700 block of South Carson Street for misdemeanor suspicion of domestic battery.
According to the arrest report, deputies were called to a motel regarding a domestic battery. Deputies were advised the male subject had punched his girlfriend in the face and had a loaded gun with him.

Deputies arrived on scene and dispatch attempted to talk with the man, who refused to come out of the motel room. After multiple requests, the man left the room and was detained.

Deputies learned in the investigation that the man had punched the victim in the jaw. The woman said she had severe jaw pain and thought it was broken. Carson City Fire Department treated the woman and recommended she go to the emergency room. The man was booked for misdemeanor domestic battery. Bail: $3,137.

— A 32-year-old Reno man was arrested Saturday, 7:59 p.m. for suspicion of DUI, failure to maintain a lane, and failure to yield for an emergency vehicle.
According to the arrest report deputies were called to a respond to a DUI driver. A witness told dispatch he was afraid the driver was going to him someone.

Deputies located the vehicle on Stewart Street approaching William. The vehicle was stopped in the middle of the lane straddling the solid white line.
The vehicle accelerated when the light turned green and the officer attempted several times to pull it over, going approximately 4 blocks before coming to a stop.

The officer approached the vehicle, and spoke with the driver, and could smell a strong odor of alcohol. The man consented to standardized field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. He was asked if he knew where he was at and the man replied Reno. He was asked what time it was. The man told the deputy 1 a.m. It was 7:42 p.m. The man provided a preliminary breath test with a result of .257. He was booked and taken to jail where he blew evidentiary breath samples of .224 and .216. Bail: $1,416.
