Carson City pair jailed on counterfeiting charges; fake money, printing equipment recovered
Two people were arrested Tuesday for felony counterfeiting and other charges after sheriff's deputies and the U.S. Secret Service executed a search warrant at an Edmonds Drive residence, a Carson City sheriff's captain said.
Arrested were Melanie Taylor and Paul Matheson, both 55 and both of Carson City. Each are being held on $25,000 bail.
Carson City sheriff’s office detectives applied for and were granted a search warrant for the residence based upon an ongoing investigation into counterfeit manufacturing, said Capt. Brian Humphrey. The investigation was just one of several the two agencies have worked closely on in recent months that have led to several arrests.
As a result of the joint investigation the two were arrested, numerous counterfeit one hundred dollar bills were recovered, and the printing equipment was taken as evidence. The investigation is continuing with potential federal charges being brought, said Humphrey.
Taylor faces charges of possession of financial forgery lab, uttering a forged instrument, driving under the influence of drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Matheson faces charges of possession of financial forgery lab, uttering a forged instrument, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
