NHP investigates fatal crash that killed Gardnerville man
The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified a Gardnerville man who died in a three-vehicle crash Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021 on Highway 395 and Courtland Lane in Douglas County.
Sean Leonard, a 53-year-old Gardnerville resident, died at the scene of the crash. According to NHP, a preliminary investigation shows that a silver 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup, driven by Leonard, was southbound on US-395 and stopped to make a left turn onto Courtland Lane.
A white 2012 Freightliner semi-tractor-trailer traveling southbound on US-395 failed to stop and struck the rear of the Dodge pickup waiting to make a left turn, according to NHP.
The Dodge pickup was forced into the northbound travel lane. A white 2016 Peterbilt utility service truck was traveling northbound at the time of the collision. The front of the Peterbilt service truck struck the Dodge pickup driven by Leonard, who died at the scene.
The crash is being investigated by the Nevada Highway Patrol Northern Command West Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team (M.I.R.T.) NHP Case No. 210201479.
