— A 20-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday in the 1400 block of Clearview Drive on a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving. According to the arrest report, a witness contacted dispatch at 11:15 p.m. about a pair of Ford Mustangs racing south on I-580. The witness provided a plate number, which had been involved in a high speed pursuit at 2 a.m. that morning. Sparks police advised they were involved in a high speed pursuit with the red Mustang as it traveled east bound on I-80 toward Fernley.

The speeds were in excess of 100 mph and Sparks Police terminated the pursuit for public safety reasons, according to the arrest report. The plate returned to the 20-year-old suspect of Carson City. Dispatch advised the man was arrested for reckless driving the week before as well as numerous other times.

An officer located both Ford Mustangs at South Edmonds and Clearview and pulled in behind the red car and activated his lights and siren. The car failed to yield for about one block then turned right onto Valley View. The vehicle still did not stop and continued slowly to the end of the street which appeared to be a dead end. It was only at that point that the driver stopped, according to the arrest report.

The dark Mustang pulled behind the officer as did the reporting witness who called in the reckless driving to dispatch. Two additional deputies arrived on scene a short time later as the arresting officer made contact with the driver of the red car. Another officer spoke with the driver of the dark Mustang.

The 20-year-old suspect pretended to be confused about why he was being stopped. The officer advised him a citizen witnessed his reckless driving and wanted to sign a complaint. He exited the vehicle and was checked for weapons. He granted a constant to search the vehicle in which officers found a loaded Glock pistol magazine but the pistol was not present, the arrest report states.

Another officer advised the suspect was arrested the previous week for reckless driving and he had been cited multiple times on similar charges. Officers found a citation from NHP located in the vehicle in which he was caught speeding and claimed his speedometer did not work.

The reporting witness relayed her account of the driving she saw on I-580 approaching Clearview in which she estimated the cars were going over 100 mph. The witness completed a statement. The 20-year-old was taken into custody. At jail the officer was contacted by Sparks Police who confirmed the vehicle pursuit earlier. The suspect was Mirandized and refused to speak about the incident. The driver of the dark Mustang was cited for reckless driving. Bail: $637.

— A 31-year-old Elko man, Ryan Cowles, was arrested Sunday, 1:23 p.m. in the 1700 block of Snyder Avenue on a felony fugitive from justice warrant. The warrant was issued Feb. 5, 2013 out of El Dorado Superior court in California. Bail: $25,000.

— A 33-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 7:41 p.m. in the 3800 block of Highway 50 East on a misdemeanor warrant, domestic battery, issued Feb. 13, 2015 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $3,000.

— 22-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Sunday, 3:53 a.m. in the 4000 block of Pheasant Drive on suspicion of domestic battery. Officers met with the victim who stated his wife went out with friends, came home and began arguing with him. She threw a cell phone striking him in the leg, then picked up a plastic TV tray and threw it at him, hitting him in the face and mouth area. The man went upstairs to get away from his wife, who followed him upstairs, and then punched him several times. The woman was determined to be the primary aggressor, according to the arrest report. Bail: $3,137.

Those arrested and facing charges are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

While staying at the enchanting Renaissance recently, I had a view of the Truckee River, and a half dozen homeless folks dwelling there on her silent shores. They pretty much kept to themselves until a gregarious gentleman came along with something to eat that he passed out to one after another until they were all up and around on the riverbank, bargaining and trading with what little they had to offer. This was quite possibly their main meal for the day, and they were exhibiting great gladness in celebrating it.
