Sierra Flats Affordable Housing to open July 9 in Carson City; now accepting applications
After several years of set backs due to the economy, the Sierra Flats Affordable Housing project is finally opening with a ribbon cutting July 9, providing 80 new rent controlled units to the capital city.
There are two portions of the project, a building for seniors and a building for family and workforce housing, each containing 40 units.
In addition to the units, there will be a wellness center, a fitness center, a computer lab, EV charging stations, and onsite management.
According to Chico Clark of Oikos Development, each building has been built to National Green Building Standards-Gold, and will have solar panels to help offset the cost of utilities.
“Outside, there’s vast greenspace, a children’s playground, horseshoe pit, picnic and barbecue areas, and just some of the most beautiful backdrops of the mountain range,” Clark added.
The Senior building includes 32 one-bedroom units ranging from $515-$865 per month based on income, and eight two-bedroom units ranging from $620-$1,030 based on income. All utilities are included.
In the Family building, there are 18 one-bedroom units ranging from $485-$830 per month based on income, and six two-bedroom units ranging in cost from $795-$1,000 based on income. Tenants pay for power and gas.
In addition in the Family building there will be 16 units leasing at market rate.
When the second phase is completed, a total of 160 affordable units will be available, 120 of which will be for families and workforce housing and will include three bedroom units.
In order to qualify, applicants must have twice the monthly rent in income and be under the maximum income limit based upon household size. Gift letters from families are accepted to help them qualify. Section-8 vouchers are accepted.
