Senator Square: Honor Society holds winter blood drive; signups begin for Polar Plunge
National Honor Society is hosting its winter blood drive. It will take place on January 28 in the library from 7:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. It is open to community members. Refreshments and a free cholesterol test is available with each donation. Appointments can be made online at bloodhero.com, Blood drive: Carson High School, Code word: Senators. Please come and support such a worthy cause. Find the hero in you and save three lives!
National Honor Society invites you to participate in Polar Plunge. It will take place in Lake Tahoe on March 19. That's right, it is not a mistake. You get to plunge into icy cold waters of Lake Tahoe. Why? It is the biggest fundraiser to support Special Olympics. Special Olympics of Nevada provides year round sports training and competition opportunities to children and adults with intellectual disabilities. This year's theme is Rock-n-Roll. You get to dress up in all kinds of crazy costumes and have fun.
Join our team at iPolarPlunge.com, find our location, South Lake Tahoe, March 19, and join the team. Our team name is Carson High School Senators. You need to raise $25 to be able to plunge. If you don't like cold water, you can register as a chicken and still participate in all the festivities and fun surrounding this event. Questions? Email Mrs. Glenn at eglenn@carson.k12.nv.us.
CHS Talent Show
The CHS talent show will be on February 10 at the Carson Community Center at 7 PM. The event costs $5 for students and staff if bought before the day of show and $8 for adults. All ticket prices at the door go up to $8. Auditions to be in the talent show will be held on Wednesday, January 27 after school in the upstairs cafeteria. Pick up an application in Mrs. Golik’s room #243. For more information, contact agolik@carson.k12.nv.us.
Speech and Debate News
Carson High Speech and Debate captain Sawyer Barnett competed in the second level of the American Legion speaking contest at Western Nevada College last Sunday. He took 1st place in the event with his speeches on the duties of citizens to the government according to the Constitution and the importance of the 8th Amendment. He moves on to the department level of the competition next month. Carson High Speech and debate hosts the next tournament Jan 29 and 30. We are looking for anyone interested in participating in this event as a judge. No training is required and judging is both entertaining and educational.
