Submitted by Danielle Cook on Fri, 03/16/2018 - 7:25pmOkay. This is one of the hardest weekend lists I’ve ever had to do. This dump of snow has cancelled some events, but others are in full force. Best I can tell, St. Patrick’s Day parties are not deterred by a little snowfall. There will be no parade in Virginia City, but the Rocky Mountain Oyster Fest is on. Head to downtown Carson for more green beer, Irish music, and corned beef and cabbage than you’ll know what to do with.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Candidate To Participate In Polar Plunge
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 03/14/2018 - 7:53pmDouglas County, March 14, 2018 - Captain Joe Duffy, Candidate for Sheriff of Douglas County, will be participating in the 2018 Polar Plunge - Thrill of the Chill - to benefit the Special Olympics of Northern California and Nevada.
The goal of this year’s event is to raise $146,000 “to help more than 24,000 children and adults with developmental disabilities succeed through sports.” Duffy will be participating alongside his wife and friends.
Duffy has a history of participating in athletic events for charity. He has also run for the Special Olympics Torch Run.

Tahoe's Howie Nave headed to Vegas as inductee of Nevada Broadcasters Hall of Fame

Nave, who has been with KRLT FM 93.9 as host of “Howie’s Morning Rush” at Lake Tahoe for nearly 15 years, will be inducted at the Four Seasons Hotel. He joins the ranks of more than 800 broadcasters from around Nevada who make up the Hall of Fame, celebrating its 20th year.

Well, it’s in Reno, but that isn’t too far of a drive for elephants, clowns, and cotton candy. Also in Reno, but intended for a slightly older audience, is the Lady Luck Tattoo and Art Expo, coincidentally held at Circus Circus.
For the outdoorsy-types you can join in the March to End Senior Hunger 5K in Dayton; the 5K Glow Run benefitting the Western Nevada College Softball Team; or join a ranger at Washoe Lake State Park for a guided hike.

Senator Square: CHS Leadership puts 'Love Thy Community' theme to work
Submitted by editor on Sun, 02/15/2015 - 5:34amHey Carson City, the Carson High Leadership class is organizing a clean-up day at Mills Park for Thursday, Feb. 26 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. This month, Carson High Leadership is focusing on Love Thy Community.
So every week, Carson High's Student Council will be encouraging their fellow students to clean up in several different ways: they will be making posters and flyers and putting them up around the school, it will be on the announcements, and every Thursday of Friday they will be passing out a reward when they see other students cleaning up.
