Cap City Baseball hits the field Tuesday, July 30
Local non-profit Carson Youth Programs, Inc. is pleased to announce the brand new Cap City Baseball program, with the inaugural season kicking off this fall!
The initial parent meeting and practice kick off begins Tuesday, July 30, at 5:30 p.m. at the lower Centennial Park Fields, 3666 Centennial Park Drive, Carson City. Practice will start promptly for those participating, so please plan on arriving early to complete the registration paperwork.
Cap City Baseball began as a collective effort by local business owners and volunteer coaches to provide affordable means to expand the skill and competition base of young athletes while fostering community involvement.
“We are fortunate in Carson City to have so many great youth programs,” says Johnny Olivas, a local business owner and volunteer coach, “but with the population growth we’ve seen in the past few years, we really were looking for a way to locally provide a more comprehensive level of training and skill development for young athletes without having to travel.”
Cap City Baseball's focus is on developing and enhancing fundamental baseball techniques, which includes a fall tournament schedule, allowing the athletes to still participate in winter sports and spring little league. The program aims to provide the best resources and same training many families travel to bigger cities to find.
To be eligible for the 2019 fall season, athletes must be between the ages of 9 and 13, born between May 1, 2007 and April 30, 2011. The cost to participate will be $100 for a uniform set (2 hats, one away jersey, one home jersey, and undershirt) and a program fee of $100. The program runs through August, September, and October, with monthly payment options available. Practices will be twice per week on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings.
Players will also be expected to assist with ongoing fundraising efforts to keep the cost per participant amount as low as possible, such as raising funds from local businesses to support the program and engage the community. The fundraising also helps support a scholarship program to ensure equal access to quality sports instruction.
“Since we are a new program, we are starting from scratch,” says Olivas. “We’ve got some fantastic support from the community and local businesses already, but we have a lot of work to make this program successful long term. Any support will be greatly appreciated by the nonprofit group as well as by the local athletes and families.”
