The Carson Cluckers are working hard to get ready for the Silver & Sage Fair. Many of these youth are veterans of shows and love to help the younger members to improve their skills.

Partnership Carson City, founded to develop a healthy community, and other partners are educating the community about how to safely dispose of prescription drugs this Saturday, Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. to noon at Smith's Food and Drug Store, located at 599 E William St. Additionally, Partnership will have a collection box for safe disposal of sharps (syringes) and providing free Deterra Bags for safe-at-home disposal and lockboxes for storage.

Carson Capitols Lacrosse Club, a division of Carson Youth Programs, Inc., is proud to announce their upcoming season for boys and girls ages 12-8, which will begin formal training and practices in January 2021, with the season starting in March 2021.

For the second year in a row, The Salvation Army is holding school supply drives at more than 4,500 Walmart locations across the country. In the Carson City, Douglas County and Reno areas, there are 8 Walmart stores participating this Friday through Sunday. Due to COVID-19, the need is greater than ever before. The Rotary Club of Carson City has announced that The Capital City Brewfest, scheduled for August 29th, will not take place this summer due to the COVID 19 virus.

The annual event, which funds the Rotary Club’s scholarships and youth programs, featured several dozen regional breweries and distilleries. The club has set the date of June 26, 2021 for the next Brewfest.

Salvation Army regional headquarters has announced that Captains Mark and Leslie Cyr of The Salvation Army serving Carson City and Douglas County have been appointed to the Pueblo, Colo., Salvation Army.

The Carson City Host Lions will hold an Installation Dinner on Wednesday, June 24 beginning with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. at the Carson City Plaza Events Center, with dinner following at 6 p.m. Region Chair Adam Hopkins from the Reno Cigar Lions Club will perform the installation ceremony. The Silver State celebrates its birthday this week in Carson City and will put on a statehood celebration like no other as Nevada Day comes into full swing, featuring the annual parade down Carson Street on Saturday, a carnival at Mills Park, The La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow at the MAC, activities for adults and kids, contests, delicious food dishes, pancakes, chili and plenty of beverages to suit every wild hair.

With a daytime high around 92 and plenty of sunshine, activities lined up around Carson City for Tuesday, July 30, feature a midnight meteor shower gathering at the Jack C. Davis Observatory, morning and evening hikes, a Capital City youth fall baseball meeting, a ladies bike ride, a Relay for Life fundraiser at Firehouse Subs, archery at Centennial Park, art showings and more. Local non-profit Carson Youth Programs, Inc. is pleased to announce the brand new Cap City Baseball program, with the inaugural season kicking off this fall!

The Capital City Community Band and the Mile High Jazz Band Association, in cooperation with Carson Middle School, will present a free Summer Showcase Band Concert on Sunday, June 23, 2019, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center’s outdoor stage at Minnesota and King streets in Carson City, the same stage used for the Levitt Amp concerts. Some seating is available, and the public is invited to bring chairs.

The budget for the Community Support Services Grant was finalized at the most recent Carson City Board of Supervisor’s meeting, which allocated nearly $400,000 of grant funding for various programs helping our local communities such as helping homebound seniors, dental care for local youth, emergency shelter for domestic violence victims and more.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held Thursday, June 6, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

Sierra Lutheran High School, in collaboration with Bethlehem Lutheran Church and School and Mt. Cross Ministries, has released its 2019 Summer Programs registration. Collectively, the three entities will offer seven unique summer programs, including two week-long overnight programs.

Nevada exceeded all its mandated performance measures for the 2nd quarter of 2018 in efforts to hire and train dislocated adults and youth as part of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, according to a report released Monday by the state's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

Local restaurant and brewery, The Fox Brewpub, will hold a fundraiser for a local family whose daughter was recently diagnosed with cancer on Saturday, April 6 from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.

The event, which will raise funds for ten year-old Aylee Sharron, who was recently diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma and is the daughter of Mariel and Tony Sharron, will feature a raffle and live-music.

Uniformed first responders will be serving up tea, food and holiday goodwill at the Carson City Elks Lodge Fall Tea on Sunday, Oct. 14. All proceeds from the tea will go toward providing a proper Christmas to children in need through the Holiday with a Hero program.
