Carson Parks Foundation announces official opening of Sonoma Park dog fountain
Just in time for summer, join with members of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation, Carson City Parks staff, and others this Wednesday, June 27 at 2 p.m. for the official opening of the Sonoma Park dog fountain.
This fountain and recent improvements to dog watering facilities at the dog parks in Fuji Park were fully underwritten by the Foundation using funds entrusted to its care by the former Paws 4 Parks organization.
The Foundation’s lead for the project, Carson City Supervisor and Foundation Board member Lori Bagwell, particularly encourages former members of Parks 4 Paws to join with the Foundation to celebrate the completion of this project.
In September of last year, at the Foundation’s request, Parks Department staff identified a series of dog park-related projects they felt were needed. Projects identified were at the Fuji Park dog parks, as well as at the dog park in Sonoma Park.
The Foundation then polled dog park users to determine which of those projects they would most like to see undertaken. Overwhelmingly, the responses supported three projects, all having to do with providing or improving existing access to water for dogs.
The Foundation fully underwrote the three projects utilizing the funds from Parks 4 Paws.
At Fuji Park, both dog-watering facilities were upgraded with concrete pads and improved drainage. At the Sonoma Park dog park, the last of the three projects, Parks Department staff installed a dog fountain and concrete surround.
The fountain (pictured) has a bowl, a faucet for filling water bottles and a standard with which a dog’s leash may be temporarily attached. The fountain displays a plaque that reads, “Made Possible by the Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation utilizing funds entrusted to it by the former Parks for Paws organization, June 2018.”
If you are a dog owner/lover, you know that our dog parks are still in need additional improvements, improvements for which there is little or no public funding.
If you are interested in helping underwrite a specific dog park improvement, as identified by the Parks staff, or would like to make a contribution to dog park improvements in general, you are encouraged to do so by making a tax deductible donation to the Foundation.
