The Brewery Arts Center will deliver live music directly to the citizens of Carson City while practicing social distancing once again this week.

Miles Construction Company has generously donated the use of a Flatbed Truck and with financial support from The Change Companies, the Nauman Foundation, and Carson Tahoe Hospital, the BAC will place musicians and bands on the flatbed and drive them through the streets and neighborhoods of Carson City throughout June and July.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Tuesday afternoon to a structure fire at a home in the 2900 block of Gillis Way near Sonoma Park.

A portion of Sonoma Park in Carson City, which has been closed since earlier this month for maintenance, will re-open Friday. The main grass area will be opened to the public and dogs on Friday, March 27 at 3 p.m. weather permitting.

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space announced March 18 its update on office and staffing changes, facility closures and program cancelations and postponements due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Sonoma Park in Carson City will be closed from March 9-27 for seasonal maintenance and repairs, while efforts to renovate the turf, address drainage issues and repair deficiencies related to the playground and amenities in the park are made.

The Fuji Park playground adjacent to the Fuji Park Dog Park has been closed due to repairs, according to David Navarro, Parks Operations Superintendent from the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department, and is set to be reopened sometime in March, although the time frame is dependent on an order of new parts for the playground.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days, including the Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music Festival, a bluegrass festival at Bowers Mansion, Celtic favorites at the BAC, tours at the Nevada State Museum, train rides, standup comedy at the Carson Nugget, a block party at Silver Oak Golf Course, a Boy Scouts car show at Fuji Park, "'Kutz for Kids' and more.

Heading into Tuesday, August 13, there's a galaxy of events lined up, beginning at midnight with a meteor shower watch party at WNC's Jack C. Davis Observatory. When the sun arrives there's fitness events, a book talk at the Nevada State Library and Archives, outdoor Carson City jazz festival happenings at Comma Coffee and Bob McFadden Plaza, family movie night at the library and more. The Lake Tahoe Bomb Squad was called to Carson City’s Sonoma Park Saturday evening on reports of a suspicious package found, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

As of 8:30 p.m. the bomb squad was on route to the park, which has been closed. Residents are being asked to keep away from the park for safety reasons.

For the winter, these hikes moved onto paved sidewalks and paths in Carson City and will be 4-6 miles in length. If it is raining or snowing, hikes will be cancelled.

A Carson City drywall laborer was arrested Thursday night at 7:40 p.m. in the area of Fifth and Stewart streets on two felony counts of uttering a forged instrument and a misdemeanor charge of ex-felon failing to register, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.

UPDATE: 3:46PM: Sonoma Park in Carson City will be closed for a renovation project Monday, June 18 and will open up to normal activities on June 20.

Antsy McClain and the Trailer Park Troubadours are waiting to entertain you at the Brewery Arts Center. There may be some balcony seating still available, but tickets are very limited.

Carson City is in the midst of the NEA’s Big Read, with True Grit by Charles Portis at the designated book. Julie Buntin’s tome, ‘Marlena: A Novel,’ is the chosen Nevada Reads book, and Nevada Humanities has brought the author here for a discussion and reading. Find Ms. Buntin at the Nevada State Library and Archives at lunchtime or hear her thoughts at the Minden Library this evening. Keep an eye to the skies if you’re interested in today’s Muscle Powered hikes; they will walk on the indoor track at the Multi-purpose Athletic Center if it’s rainy.

A 39 year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday night at 9:34 p.m. in the 1700 block of North Carson Street on multiple felony drug offenses, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.

One might think that the end of summer means that the fun times are over: they would be wrong. This list of happenings in the Carson City area isn’t getting any shorter. The annual Genoa Candy Dance is a favorite among locals and visitors alike, and this weekend welcomes the first ever Silver State Arts Festival at Fuji Park, as well. The first ever Community Garage Sale at the Community Center offers one-stop bargain hunting. Swing into the season at the monthly dance party hosted by the High Sierra Swing Dance Club.

The Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation is hosting an Open House at the Wungnema House located in Mills Park, from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24. Besides being a chance to learn about this historic building, this will also be an opportunity to discuss and review possible improvements to dog park areas in Fuji Park and Sonoma Park with FCCPR officers.

Kids are encouraged to wear their comfy clothes and bring a favorite stuffed animal during the Carson Library’s weekly Pajama Story Time. The Deputy Howell Memorial Music Festival is quickly approaching, so all volunteers will need to attend tonight’s planning meeting at Harley Davidson.

Easy Walk Program: Walks of 1 to 2 miles in length with none or negligible elevation gain, and frequently paved or smooth paths. The walks will usually be of approximately one hour in duration. If it rains or snows, meet at the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center (MAC) at 1860 Russell Way.
