Bicycle Safety Rodeo June 26 in Silver City
Cortney Bloomer of Healthy Communities Coalition will offer a free bike safety rodeo for kids ages 5-12 on Tuesday, June 26 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Silver City basketball court, next to the town park and community center at 385 High Street.
Parents are asked to attend and provide permission for their children to participate. Kids are invited to bring their own bikes and helmets. They’ll learn road rules and safety, and participate in fun bike maneuvers and exercises.
The event is part of the town's annual free summer program and is held in partnership with Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties.
About the instructor: Corntey Bloomer is a familiar face in our region due to her work with schools while she was the Western Nevada Safe Routes to School coordinator through Carson City Health and Human Services.
Today, Bloomer, who has a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and a Master's degree in Public Health, is Healthy Communities’ Food Security Project Manager.
Annual Summer Program: Each summer since 2003, Healthy Communities has co-sponsored some of the free, public programming for children that the historic Comstock community offers in partnership with nearly a dozen groups, plus lots of community volunteers. This year, activities include science experiments, a robotics mini-camp, a floral design class, a music concert, a preschool fun fair, and more.
Where is Silver City?
These events are opportunities to discover Silver City, one of the hidden gems of the Comstock.
Silver City is located within a federally designated historic landmark, three miles from Virginia City, seven miles from Dayton, 12 miles from Carson City, and 30 miles from Reno and Lake Tahoe.
When you’re exploring northwestern Nevada, Silver City has lots to offer.
Throughout the year, the town's many community groups offer free public programming in art, music, theater, poetry, history, and science at the local park, outdoor stage and community center (School House), with something to appeal to every age group, from toddlers to elders.
Parking can be found on the south side of the School House at 385 High Street.
