Muscle Powered Saturday Hike to Genoa Canyon Trail
Join us for a beautiful seven-mile hike, with five water crossings and stunning views, on Genoa Canyon Trail in Carson Valley. This hike begins with a 1300 ft elevation gain and ends with a 1300 ft elevation drop. The highest elevation on the trail is 6140 ft. The trail’s first two miles includes uphill switchbacks, then continues 3 miles south across the face of the mountains, and finally back down two miles of steep switchbacks to Carson Street in Genoa.
This hike is for experienced, fit hikers. Hiking poles are highly recommended and we require at least one quart of water, sturdy hiking shoes, and snacks. Hats and sunscreen are also highly recommended. Dogs are welcome but must be well-behaved and under owner's control and must be leashed for the first part of the hike because we begin near residences.
Meet at Genoa Canyon trailhead at the end of Carson Street in Genoa at 9:00 AM. Go to www.musclepowered.org/calendar for map location of trailhead. From there we will take half the vehicles to stage at Snowshoe Lane, where we begin our hike. After the hike, those interested can stop for refreshments at the oldest saloon in Nevada at 2282 Main St., which is just three blocks from the trailhead. Please plan approximately five hours for the hike, plus extra time if staying for refreshments.
We will cancel if it rains or snows on the morning of the hike. For further information please contact Jo Foster at jf.prairie@gmail.com, (319) 504- 3309; or Larry Marinel at larryamarinel@gmail.com, (530) 788-6274.
