Carson City Emblem Club hosts March 16 St. Patrick's Day Dinner
The Carson City Emblem Club #507 will hold its annual St. Patrick's Day Dinner on Saturday, March 16 at the Elks Lodge, 515 North Nevada Street in Carson City.
The dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. and features corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, vegetables, homemade soda bread and dessert.
Affiliated with and sanctioned by the Grand Lodge of Elks Club of the United States, the official auxiliary of the Carson City Elks Lodge #2177 the Emblem Club is an organization dedicated to literacy, hearing impaired educators and projects, Americanism, drug awareness education and community service.
In this spirit of community services, the members of Carson City Emblem Club #507 support many benevolent community activities such as:
Emblem Club Projects for the hearing impaired, support of hearing dog projects, hearing impaired individuals with the help in purchasing hearing aids; and sponsorship of hearing impaired adolescents at Camp Sign Shine.
Literacy projects:
Members tutor English as a second language to non-English-speaking citizens and donate to the project to assist others in learning English.
Drug Awareness and Resistance Education
Emblem members assist coordinator Lisa Davis with the D.A.R.E program. Sponsored by the Carson City Sheriff's Office, this program reaches all fifth grade students in Carson City. Members also participate in public events, distribute hundreds of color books and drug resistance materials.
Twin Visions
Members collect all types of books to be translated into Braille. Utilized by visually impaired parents and/or children, these books offer the opportunity for parents and children to read together.
Community Projects
— Emblem members sponsor events to fund annual Western Nevada College Nursing scholarships for a second-year nursing student.
— Donate funds to area school districts for classroom equipment in hearing impaired programs.
— Donate funds to "Do Drop In" a Carson City Day center for homeless individuals.
— Donate funds annually to "Safe Grad Night" for three area high schools.
Emblem members support all Elk's Club activities, have a monthly business meeting and usually an additional social or special dinner.
The Emblem Club supports the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada and its activities. They volunteer at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center; cater private parties and dinners and much more. As an Emblem sister, they can choose to participate in whatever area they enjoy.
The Emblem Club is a sisterhood and the commitment of friendship and caring is evident in all our activities.
For more information on the club, call Carol Park, Membership Chair, at (775) 882-3751.
