Pine Nut Mountain Trail Association receives state off-highway vehicle program grant
The Pine Nut Mountains Trail Association is pleased to announced that it is a grant recipient from the 2018 Nevada Off–Highway Vehicle Registration Program for use in supporting numerous clean up events.
This grant will allow the PNMTA to continue their work cleaning up sections of the Pine Nut Mountains in the year 2018 by providing funds for dumpsters, dump fees, purchasing of tools, and safety equipment and providing trail education and outreach. Clean-up events are scheduled for the following dates: April 21-22 and October 20-21. These may be rescheduled due to weather.
Approximately $1.4 million in funding was available for the 2018 fiscal year. This state funding comes from the registration of off-highway vehicles in Nevada. The Nevada Off-Highway Vehicle Program is safe and responsible use of Nevada's outstanding opportunities for off-road recreation. The program provides grants to fund off-highway vehicle related projects throughout the state including trail improvements, mapping, signage, law enforcement, education, safety training, restoration, and other projects.
“We look forward to working with the club members, local social clubs, Sherriff’s Office, Bureau of Land Management and Forestry service in this endeavor to keep these areas enjoyable for all off-road enthusiasts,” notes PNMTA secretary Pam Dellea-Giltner.
The PNMTA is a non-profit organization that formed in 1998 in response to the threat of losing access to our public lands in the Carson Valley.
The PNMTA has been working with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and other government agencies ever since to protect our rights to enjoy the beautiful public lands in our area. The PNMTA represents all types of recreational users. Our members include Bicyclists, OHV users, Equestrians, Hunters, and any person that is interested in preserving public lands.
Taking care of the land is a key part of our strategy. No other group has done as much to improve the environment in the Pine Nut Mountains.
The PNMTA has organized annual cleanups and trail projects resulting in the removal of thousands of cubic yards of trash and dozens of abandoned vehicles. We have also done trail improvement projects, including signing trails and creating official staging areas.
And we have fun! The PNMTA organizes many different activities to keep us all connected. We have picnics, camping trips, and day trips scheduled throughout the year. Check our Facebook page for the latest information on upcoming events.
