$1 million in grant funding available for Nevada's OHV recreation projects

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Off-Highway Vehicles Program is pleased to announce that approximately $1 million in grant funding is available for off-highway vehicle (OHV) projects in Nevada.

VC Outhouse races, Relay for Life, golf tournament, Oktoberfest and more: Carson City region in store for eventful weekend

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the 30th annual Outhouse Races in Virginia City, American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event in Carson City, Fright Night at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, Oktoberfest at the Casino Fandango, the 26th annual 'Making a Difference' Golf Tournament and much more!

Trails Association, Carson City Parks, Rec and Open Space to host Prison Hill clean-up

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department, with the Pine Nut Mountains Trails Association and the Nevada Off-Highway Vehicle Commission, is sponsoring a volunteer Clean-Up Day at the Prison Hill Recreation Area in the OHV Area. The public is invited to come out and help.

Campers get ready: Forest Service announces Tahoe Basin recreation area opening dates

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit will begin to open recreational facilities in the Lake Tahoe Basin beginning this Saturday, April 27 at Baldwin and Nevada beaches.

Carson City Parks and Rec to host Trash Dash Competition, prizes included

On April 13 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. a Trash Dash Competition will be hosted by Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space, with prizes awarded in three categories. Participants must find as much trash as they can, but prizes will also be awarded to most interesting find, and largest item.

Forest Service holds Carson City open house for off-highway grant application input

The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest will hold an open house on Wednesday, Feb. 27, to gather public ideas for requesting off-highway vehicle grant funds. The informal open house will run from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Carson Ranger District Office, 1536 South Carson Street.

Nevada Off-Highway Vehicles Program announce OHV Trail Partner of the Year Award winner

The Nevada Off-Highway Vehicles Program, within the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, is excited to recognize Stan Harger of the Kokopelli ATV Club with its first-ever Trail Partner of the Year award.

While hiking on the power line road just south of the OHV/Horse staging/parking area of Silver Saddle Ranch East, I came upon a few poorly maintained power lines where the wood supports are visibly failing — and not attached at all. I would hate to see a fire started due to lack of maintaining the line.

Kids will love the Carnival at Bordewich Elementary School, and it helps raise funds for a local Cub Scout Pack. A 23-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday for felony suspicion of domestic battery by strangulation and a misdemeanor violation of a suspended sentence warrant, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Christmas tree permits available Monday on public land in Tahoe basin, Eldorado National Forest

The Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit and the Eldorado National Forest will begin the sale of Christmas tree permits on Monday, Nov. 13. Permit holders may choose from a variety of pine, fir or cedar trees up to six inches in diameter at the base in designated cutting areas.

Muscle Powered Evening Conditioning Hike Program are evening hikes of 4 to 6 miles in length with elevation gain, sometimes over 500 feet and usually on single track trail. The evening hike will usually be 1 1/2 hour duration or more.
