Carson Fly Fishing Club's Monthly Meeting is Tuesday, Sept. 12, 7 p.m. in the Ormsby Room of the Carson City Sheriff's Office, 911 East Musser Street.

My two apple trees are loaded with fruit this year. One is an old tree of unknown variety and the other is a "Red Delicious." The old tree is dropping apples all over the place. Some have a coral-colored blush; others are still greenish yellow.

Fun times Saturday at the Camel Races at Virginia City. Festivities continue Sunday, Sept. 10 which is Family Day with a show at noon. The first 100 kids ride a camel for free. Gates open an hour in advance of each show start.

Minden Mill Distilling, formerly the Bently Distillery, held a grand opening for the community Saturday.

The new owners, Foley Family Wines of Sonoma, Calif. announced the purchase of the distillery back in May.

The construction of the FISH Commercial building at 1455 N Carson Street is in progress with a completion date of January 2024.

I was fishing high on the East Carson River on Sunday, until it it down poured on us all. We drove down to the Carson River Resort for their live band and bbq and the sky opened up, the sun shined down upon us long enough to enjoy the festivities.

The Douglas County Rodeo is coming to the Douglas county Fairgrounds in Gardnerville Sept. 8-9.

On Saturday, Sept. 16 the second annual Dayton Valley Days Cornhole Tournament returns, with proceeds supporting the Dayton Chamber.

Carson City Supervisors approved Thursday a HUD grant which for the past year has helped to take a dozen individuals off the streets.

According to Carson City Health and Human Services’s Mary Jane Ostrander, who oversees the program, the program allows Carson City to place two homeless individuals into two-bedroom apartments so that they can get on their feet, find employment, and eventually take over the leases themselves.

The Silver State Art Festival, known for its unique gourd art displays, is returning to Carson City this weekend, Sept. 8-10 at the Fuji Park Exhibit Hall.
