Alzheimer's Association Teams Up With Better Business Bureau and Sparks City Attorney
If you or someone you know is facing Alzheimer’s, dementia or another chronic illness, it’s never too early to put financial plans in place. The Alzheimer’s Association of Northern Nevada will present a free, in-person class on Managing Money: A Caregiver’s Guide to Finances.
Managing Money is an evidence-based education program, which teaches caregivers about:
• The costs of caregiving and the benefits of early planning
• Avoiding financial abuse and fraud
• Starting a conversation about finances
• Assessing financial and legal needs
• Finding support
The program includes video clips of real-life caregivers sharing their experiences in managing finances for a loved one. The program also provides caregivers with activities to help them develop and implement a plan.
In addition to the Managing Money Program, participants will learn about scams and fraud prevention from the Better Business Bureau and Sparks City Attorney, Wes Duncan. According to Mr. Duncan, “protecting Seniors in our community is a top priority. Since March of 2020, the number of scams have skyrocketed and providing Seniors with information to protect themselves is critical to combating fraud. The Sparks City Attorney’s office and the Better Business Bureau are committed to ensuring that our seniors remain safe and don’t fall prey to financial abuse and fraud.”
This forum will be held on Thursday, September 14th from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the Sparks Library Meeting Room, located at 1125 12th Street in Sparks. Lunch will be provided by MorningStar Senior Living of Sparks. Registration is limited to the first 50 individuals who sign up.
