It's "big-band jazz times 5" when the Mile High Jazz Band and four youth jazz bands present the 20th annual Jazz Extravaganza concert happening Tuesday, Feb. 20, 7 p.m., in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street, Carson City. The Extravaganza is sponsored by the Mile High Jazz Band Association as a benefit for youth jazz programs.

On a chilly February morning in 2022, early morning commuters on I-580 through Washoe Valley were met with a horrific sight: a car in the southbound lanes was fully consumed in fire.

When first responders arrived, the situation became far more grisly after it was discovered that the body of a young woman, later to be identified as 23-year-old Anna Marie Scott, was inside of the trunk.

She is a small, medium/long haired black kitten a little over 6 months old. She is a bundle of fun, love and energy. Autumn is very outgoing and makes friends quickly and easily with both cats and people. She has a bold and outgoing personality.

The first Lyon County Sheriff's Office saturation patrol of the New Year was conducted last Friday night, Jan. 26, 2024. The target of the saturation patrol was the Dayton patrol zone.

This event was unannounced, and the planning for the event began in December. One of the goals of the saturation patrol is to suppress crime in the designated area, even if it is for one night.

The nonprofit Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties holds a public breakfast meeting every other month.

A person was arrested early Thursday for suspicion of DUI, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

At around 2:35 a.m. a CCSO deputy was dispatched to the area of Blue Haven Lane for a non-injury crash. Dispatch advised the adult female driver hit a parked car and told them she was "driving drunk and hit a parked car," the arrest report states.

This month the Carson City Leisure Hour Club hosts Glen Martel, CEO of the Nevada Builders Alliance at the club’s monthly dinner meeting. The event is set for Thursday, Feb. 15.

The Carson Valley Arts Council is pleased to present an evening with Dirty Cello. The band will perform at the CVIC Hall, 1602 Esmeralda in Minden, at 7 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2024.
