Lyon County Sheriff's Office seeks whereabouts of known suspect in vehicle pursuit
On Sunday, Nov. 17, 2019, at around 6:24 p.m., a Lyon County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputy observed a suspicious vehicle in Yerington near the Maverik Gas Station.
A DMV check of the license plates revealed the license plates did not belong to the vehicle they were on. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver of the vehicle failed to stop. A vehicle pursuit occurred and the suspect drove to an apartment complex on Surprise Street in Yerington.
The suspect vehicle crashed into a fence and the driver fled on foot. A foot chase ensued and deputies set up a perimeter of the area.
LCSO K9 deputies responded and one of the K9 deputies tracked the suspect for about a mile before the trail went cold. It is believed the suspect got a ride out of the area.
Deputies were able to identify the suspect as Kevin Michael McVay, 34, who is a resident of San Bernardino, Calif. He was last seen wearing gray-colored pants and a gray-colored button-up shirt in the area of Surprise Street in Yerington.
Probable cause exists to arrest McVay for suspected felony eluding a law enforcement officer and display of fictitious license plates.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about McVay or his whereabouts to call the Sheriff’s Office (775) 463-6600 or Secret Witness at (775) 322-4900.
