Bella Voce Winter Concert canceled due to weather
CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER: How many songs can a choir sing about snow? Quite a few, considering the metaphorical gold mine that is snow! It is the blanket the Earth pulls over herself as she slumbers, hushed and still. It hides the uneven and flawed places of the ground, it ushers in the holiday; we play in it. It is the beginning or the ending of life, depending on the composer.
Freshly fallen snow is as pure as the soul of a newborn baby, yet both are less pristine with time and age. The poet, C. Alice Roberts grapples with the dual nature when she exhorts the soul to be as pure as snow, while recognizing its ephemeral nature.
“O snow, thou'rt white no more,
Thy sparkling too, is o'er;
O soul, be as before,
Was bright the snow.”
Some Finnish composers have a more pragmatic view of the frozen stuff--it’s inevitable that it comes, but a cause for celebration when it “sings” and melts away so life can begin anew with spring.
Start your holidays out in a joyful way with Bella Voce Women's Ensemble holiday concert, Snow! Concert is free and family friendly and will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 1, 2019 at First United Methodist Church at the corner of Division and Musser.
