Let us play. That message was seen all over Carson City Saturday afternoon as youth athletes, parents, and coaches lobbied to have a 2020 fall sports season.

Carson City Health and Human Service is reporting 6 new cases and 19 recoveries in the Quad-County region on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2020. This brings the total number of cases to 1,240, with 1,102 recoveries and 16 deaths, 122 cases remain active.

The 2020 pine nut harvest season kicks off on lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management and Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. Both agencies are working together to ensure the public is safely harvesting pine nuts and aware of the regulations.

National Forest trails, trailheads, beaches and other day-use areas in the Lake Tahoe Basin have now reopened for day-use only as of Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020. Camping and overnight stays will not be permitted, and campgrounds will remain closed. Resorts will reopen for day-use only. Emergency Fire Restrictions will remain in effect through Nov. 30. Nevada Raider Nation, Carson City Chapter is hosting a game watch Monday, Sept 21 at 5:15 p.m. as the Las Vegas Raiders take on the New Orleans Saints. This is the first home game for the Las Vegas Raiders at their new Allegiant Stadium.

A 24-year-old Texas man was arrested in the Carson City Jail for escape by a felony prisoner and damage to jail property. He is accused of climbing into the ceiling after making a phone call and threatening a jail deputy.

Community members are planning a vigil for Ruth Bader Ginsburg tonight, Saturday Sept. 19 on the steps of the Supreme Court in Carson City.

The Carson City School Board of Trustees meets Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 East William Street. The board will take up a number of items, including possible adoption of test procedures and a security plan, a demonstration of the district's parent dashboard and more.

Finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) show initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 8,332 for the week ending September 12, up 381 claims, or 4.8 percent, compared to last week’s total of 7,951 claims.

Through the week ending September 12, there have been 686,683 initial claims filed in 2020, 665,031 of which have been filed since the week ending March 14.

Just before 8 p.m. a vehicle fire in the parking lot of the FoodMaxx was reported.

First responders are currently enroute to the scene.

A truck is reportedly on fire and all passengers have evacuated.

Motorists should avoid the area or use caution if no alternate route is available.

UPDATE 7:57 p.m.: When first responders arrived two minutes later they reported the fire was out but the truck was smoking.

The Nevada Artist Association is proud to present the 2020 “Autumn Show” and the beautiful works of Featured Artists Karen Kreyeski and Maggie Stillwell.

While the building that is housing the Lamplighter bar has undergone many names throughout its long history, owner Cheryl Mathwig said she always connected to its iteration of being the Lamplighter.

Now the bar that was most recently known as Tommy’s Neighborhood Bar has reverted to its old name, and Mathwig is dedicated to bringing back historical touches.

Due to the continued and forecasted very unhealthy air quality, all Carson City School District hybrid students will be on a full-remote learning day Friday, Sept. 18, 2020. Students will not attend classes in-person on campus. Staff will receive specific instructions from their site administrator.

Carson City Health and Human Services reports Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020 that there are 23 new cases and 10 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 1,217, with 1,072 recoveries and fifteen deaths, 130 cases remain active.

New Nevada System of Higher Education Chancellor Dr. Melody Rose spent the morning visiting Western Nevada College facilities on Thursday in Carson City. Dr. Rose is touring all of NSHE’s college campuses during her first month as chancellor.

Carson Capitols Lacrosse Club, a division of Carson Youth Programs, Inc., is proud to announce their upcoming season for boys and girls ages 12-8, which will begin formal training and practices in January 2021, with the season starting in March 2021.

NV Energy said Thursday it is canceling plans to shut off electric power lines Friday as part of a public safety outage management event in Incline Village due to improved weather conditions and an updated forecast.

Carson City schools are open today, Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020 for hybrid learning. The forecast indicates the air quality should improve throughout the day. Students and staff should report to school as usual for in-person learning for the hybrid model. Many thanks to parents and families for their continued effort transporting their children to and from school while our bus services remain halted until Tuesday, Sept. 29.

Students at Western Nevada College were captivated by a very special visitor on Wednesday morning on its Carson City campus. None other than Steve Sisolak, the 30th governor of Nevada, spent part of his busy morning passionately telling students about the respect he has for them and the sacrifices they are making to attend college.

With the 2020-21 school year in full swing, private schools in the Carson City area are adjusting to new COVID-19 health and safety procedures.
